The Calf of the Month for September is a beautiful heifer out of a well-known bull that was born in 1965 out of mainly Scottish bloodlines.
Traditional Shorthorns have always been “red, white, and roan”. For those who have not been following the American Milking Shorthorn Society, they just amended their acceptable hair coat color policy so that Shorthorns can now be officially registered with AMSS if they have black in their hair coat (as long as it’s a single patch under 4” in size). AMSS continues to further blur the lines between traditional pure Shorthorns and crossbreeds just as the American Shorthorn Association (ASA) has done.
