June 2026 News

New Price List starting on July 1, 2026:

The fees for various services by the Heritage Shorthorn Society have not changed in over 3 years, while expenses (the cost of internet site hosting fees, domain name registration for HSS, shipping/mailing fees, and office supplies, etc.) have all gone up yearly.

Attached below is the updated price list. (All pricing will remain at the old rate until July 1st.)

Update on “Rose” the cow at 19 years of age: “Rose” continues to do great as she moves toward her 20th birthday. Her weight fluctuates between 1825# and 1900# although this spring she is little heavier because pasture and weather conditions have been optimum, and we did not let her get bred this past season. She still is the leader of the herd and is in with our main group of cows going up and down hills. Because we are retiring at the end of this year she will be moving to a “Bovine Retirement Home” to live out the rest of her life on a farm here in western Oregon. The story about this amazing cow is posted in the Cattle Viewpoints Section of the HSS website.

“Rose” at 10 years of age.

Take a look at the Calf of the Month page on the HSS website to see the June Heritage Calf of the Month. She was born in northern Canada on a day when the temperature was bitterly cold. She survived and is currently thriving, but frostbite on her ears is a reminder of her rough start in life. Heritage Shorthorns are tough!
