June 2025 News

June 1st is the last day to submit your entry in the contest about the lifetime total weight of calves produced by “Rose”. More information about the contest and the winners’ prizes can be found on the HSS website just under the Home Page in the New Contest Page. An article about “Rose” will be posted online on June 15th. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be announced at the end of that article.

Does your farm/ranch have a logo? Logos are an eye-catching way to help with marketing. If you don’t yet have a farm/ranch logo, or would like a different one, there are several inexpensive options. One idea is to contact your local community college and find out if they have graphic arts &/or marketing students who would be interested in a commission to design your logo. Alternatively if someone in your family or a friend has been using computer artificial intelligence programs to create things, they could try putting in specific prompts about creating a farm/ranch logo, and then revise what the computer comes up with. Once you have a logo, consider having it posted by your listing on the HSS Members/Breeders Page for higher visibility. (Contact the HSS office to add a logo to your HSS listing.)

A new Calf of the Month is posted for June. This Heritage bull calf hails from the midwest. His sire is a Heritage bull that has produced a number of quality calves in recent years via AI.

On another marketing note, The Heritage Shorthorn brochures available from HSS promote Heritage Shorthorn Cattle in a colorful, informative way and are an excellent handout to give to anyone who visits your farm/ranch &/or to hand out at county or state fairs if people are interested in your cattle. There is a place on the back of the brochure to put your farm/ranch contact information. (See the HSS store page for photos of the inside & outside of the brochures.) The price of these brochures basically only covers our printing costs and mailing expenses.
