Heritage Shorthorn Cow, born in 2018

This past July the Canadian Shorthorn Association (CSA) hosted the 18th World Shorthorn Conference. Grant Smith, who is a member of both CSA and HSS, was on the organizing committee for the Conference and he arranged for HSS to present a talk about Heritage Shorthorns during the business meeting on July 14, 2025 in Brandon, Manitoba. Dr. Joseph Schallberger, a Co-founder of the Heritage Shorthorn Society, gave a talk and slide show titled “Heritage Shorthorns in a Modern World”. His presentation covered a variety of aspects of Shorthorn history, the importance of the diversity found in traditional Shorthorn genetics, and opportunities for utilizing Heritage Shorthorns in today’s world, etc. “Heritage Shorthorns in a Modern World” including many of the photos used during the slide show is now posted in the Cattle Viewpoints Section of the HSS website.

A new Calf of the Month has been posted for October. The famous sire of this calf also sired Columbus, Clark, Spiro, and Thornwood Major.

The Heritage Shorthorn Society pays for ads in each of the Livestock Conservancy Quarterly Newsletters, and a new ad will be in the Fall 2025 edition. (See ad below)
